Now that it’s starting to get colder out, you just want to stay in your apartment and spend the day under the covers. Why not make your apartment super cozy with some inexpensive ideas and decorations?

It’s amazing how just a few changes in your apartment can make it feel super cozy for the upcoming cold weather. Take a break from studying for finals to add some quick and easy decorations to your apartment or dorm room.

Arm Knitted Blanket

This chunky blanket has made its rounds on Pinterest and the rest of the Internet and now it’s time for you to get your hands on one. If you’re feeling crafty and want to learn something new, watch some tutorial videos — there are plenty of different variations — to make your own blanket. For those of you that lack the patience and art gene, you can buy one from Etsy. You’ll probably have it faster than if you made it anyways.

Wrap it around you while studying for your next final, sipping hot chocolate with your roommates, or watching a movie with your latest love interest.

Christmas Lights

The most versatile decoration one can get their hands on is a string of Christmas lights. With a soft yellow glow, you can transform any room into a serene and cozy place to be. You can string up the Christmas lights anywhere your heart desires and make it as long as you want!

Try hanging them over your bed or across your ceiling in a zig-zag form. While you’re getting ready for bed or watching a movie, turn them on and take some time to relax under your newly lit room.

Candles

Who knew that one little flame could make a room feel so much warmer? Find some warmly scented candles that have hints of cinnamon, pumpkin, or Christmas cookies to make your home feel like you just walked into your grandmother’s house as she was baking a pie.

It’s more than just candles though, it’s about the presentation! Look for cute or eccentric candle holders to display your candles throughout the apartment. Just take a look on Pinterest to find some ideas that work candles into your everyday decor.

Plants – Real or Fake

We get it, taking care of a living, breathing plant can be too much to handle sometimes for a college student. If that is your worry, then settle on some fake plants to decorate your apartment. Set them up on the windowsill or buy some hanging baskets to put them in the corner of a room.

Keep the winter blues away with some green in your living space. Some say that plants are the cure to seasonal depression, so why not give it a try?

Area Rugs

Make your footsies comfortable with some plush area rugs. It’s really amazing when you put down an area rug in a room how it all seems to pull together. Rearrange the rug in certain places before deciding what you like best. Some spots may make the room seem bigger while others make it feel cozier and smaller.

There are a thousand different types of rugs out there, so make sure to browse through every one! Settle on a furry rug to lie in or a patterned rug to make the room pop some more.

Add a Reading Nook

Take a break from staring at the screen on your computer and look at the words in a book instead. Create a reading nook in your apartment. This is a place where you can snuggle up with your new knitted blanket and escape the world.

Find a comfortable chair that you can sit in for hours and put it in an empty corner. Add a small side table just big enough to hold a unique reading lamp, a cup of tea or coffee, and your current read. Drape a blanket over the chair and don’t forget a small pillow for your back! Once you sit down, you may never get up; except to get a new book that is.

Pillows

There is something about the way a ton of pillows looks on a bed that is extremely inviting. Buy some decorative pillows of all shapes and sizes to place on your bed. Layer the pillows until they take up a good portion of your bed. Not only does this pull your bedroom together and makes it look like something out of an Ikea catalog, but you will never find a comfier spot to study or relax after a long cold day.
